MARION, AL – In September, the Marion Military Institute (MMI) Foundation announced its Perry County Farmers Federation Scholarship recipients for the 2023-24 academic year:  Darreon Brooks and Jalen Williams.

Cadet Brooks, a Marion resident and graduate of Francis Marion High School, is a college freshman enrolled in MMI’s Army ROTC Early Commissioning Program. He currently serves in the Alabama National Guard – 781st Transportation Company. When asked why he chose this path to become an Army officer, he replied, “I’d rather be in charge.” His first semester goal at MMI is to make the Dean’s List.

Cadet Williams of Uniontown, an R.C. Hatch High School graduate, is a sophomore enrolled in MMI’s civilian Leadership Education Program. When asked what drew him to Marion, he notes: “I heard a lot of great things about the school, and my cousin went here.” After graduating from MMI, Cadet Williams plans to transfer to the University of Alabama to major in mechanical engineering.

The Perry County Farmers Federation Scholarship is one of 53 MMI Foundation annual and endowed scholarships awarded to deserving students each year.
