Press Release

MARION, Ala. (Oct. 26, 2023) – Can small towns or businesses, especially in rural areas, save money now and in the future by using alternative fuels in their transportation fleets?

That’s the focus of a free workshop set for Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Marion Art Center. The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition is organizing the event with Marion Mayor Dexter Hinton.  Speakers expected to present are from Alabama Power, Blossman Gas, The City of Birmingham and the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition. The speakers will discuss potential opportunities and challenges based on real-world data.

Government officials, municipalities and businesses serving some of Alabama’s most rural and underserved areas are expected to attend.

“There are many cost-saving strategies associated with alternative fuels, and we want to make sure everyone has the most up-to-date information possible,” said Mark Bentley, executive director of the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, which worked with the City of Marion to plan the workshop. “Information is power, and we believe this type of collaboration will help communities like Marion learn how they could benefit from deploying  domestic and cost effective  alternative fuels such as electricity, propane or biodiesel in their transportation fleets.”

The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition is participating in Drive Clean Rural USA, an eight-state pilot program funded by the Department of Energy. Three participating fleet partners in Alabama are receiving assistance from the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, as well as industry partners, that includes free technical assistance, fleet consulting, access to demonstration vehicles and help developing a clean fuel transition plan.
