A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Friday, Jan. 12, has resulted in the loss of of 24-year-old Ja’Quan D. Brooks of Marion. Officials report that the incident took place around 11:25 p.m. Reports reveal that Brooks was fatally injured when the 1998 Honda Accord he was driving left the roadway, re-entered it, and collided with a 2015 Honda Accord driven by Kendrick T. Chavers, 27, of Sawyerville. The impact then caused Brooks’ vehicle to hit a 2001 International tractor-trailer driven by Herman L. Hinton, 40, of Marion Junction. The collision took place on Alabama 69, near the 124-mile marker, just six miles south of Moundville in Hale County. Sadly, Brooks was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The details of the incident are still being investigated by Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division. ALEA officials urge drivers to be cautious and responsible on the road to prevent tragedies like this from occurring. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, and no further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Ja’Quan D. Brooks during this difficult time.
